Addition & Subtraction 3rd Grade Math Lesson Plans 3.2C 3.4A 3.4B 3.4C 3.5A 3.7B

Unit 2 is Addition and Subtraction. These plans are for 17 days of instruction. In this unit, students begin working with estimation. The use of number lines and place value relationships from Unit 1 will help them with estimation. One and two step problem involving addition and subtraction are practiced using strategies such as place value, properties of operations and different pictorial representations. This unit also practices counting a collection of coins.

I have broken down each TEK into Learning Targets to make it easier to track student progress. There are 15 skills in this unit! A student data sheet is included for students to reflect on their own learning for the unit. A teacher tracking sheet is included to make small group instruction easier!

Each day contains objective, learning targets, materials, whole class teaching activity, guided math activity and closure with an exit ticket and answer key for most days.
Whole Class teaching in this unit contains:
KWL (Preview Assessment)
Math Huddle (Math Talk)
Mini Lessons (Connection, Teaching Point, Active Engagement and Link to Ongoing Learning)

Games in this unit include:
Estimation Task Cards
Counting a Collection of Coins, Find the Perimeter
SCOOT Extensions:
Counting a Collection of Coins and Subtracting Some, Find the Missing Side Perimeter
Word Problem Puzzles

This unit is designed to print and go!  I keep mine in a binder. You can put each day and all of the materials for that day in one sheet protector.

I hope this unit helps you get started with Guided Math- you can’t beat $1.17 per day for a complete unit!
