Do your students struggle with volume related to area and perimeter? helping kids understanding how volume is related to area and perimeter is tricky, but this hands on explore activity can help!
In this activity, students are helping a shipping company decide how to ship 1cm cubes of candy. They are given sample boxes to write a formula that works every time to help the candy company find out how many boxes of candy they can ship in their candy boxes.
How to use:
- Make the sample boxes. Laminate and use velcro on the tabs. Students can unfold the box to measure the sides!
- Give the students the boxes and cm cubes.
- Questioning Cards are included to help you guide their thinking.
- Ask students to share strategies and formulas for finding the volume of the shipping boxes. Lead the discussion with the question cards. Introduce students to the BIG B! (B = l x w)
