Description
14 days of Lesson Plans and Active Engagement Activities for Measurement- Area, Perimeter, Conversions, Problem Solving with Intervals of Time, Liquid Volume, Mass, Length and Money, Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
This unit is about using all measurement! In this unit students learn about parallel and perpendicular lines, formulas for area and perimeter, relative size of customary and metric measurements, conversions between units in the same measurement system, and problem solving with length, intervals of time, liquid volume, mass and money!
I have broken down each TEK into Learning Targets to make it easier to track student progress and make working in a PLC easier. There are 7 skills in this unit! Each learning target contains intervention and enrichment skills. A student data sheet is included for students to reflect on their own learning for the unit. A teacher tracking sheet is included to make small group instruction easier!
Each day contains objective, learning targets, materials, whole class teaching activity, guided math activity and closure with an exit ticket and answer key for most days. You can use the Learning Targets to get ideas on Intervention and Enrichment skills.
Whole Class teaching in this unit contains:
- Mini Lessons
- Connection
- Teaching Point
- Active Engagement
- Link to Ongoing Learning
- Games
Games and Engagement Activities in this unit include:
- 4.6A Sort
- 4.6A SCOOT
- 4.5D Mirror
- 4.5D Ghost in the Graveyard
- 4.8A Sort
- 4.8B Roll 4 Luck
- 4.8B Independent Practice
- 4.8C SCOOT- Time
- 4.8C Scavenger Hunt- Time
- 4.8C Very Unfair Game- Volume and Mass
- 4.8C Mystery Challenge-Length
- 4.8C Differentiated SCOOT- Money
- Unit Review- Jeopardy
This unit is designed to print and go! (If you want to keep it each year- laminating and cutting is involved!) I keep mine in a binder. You can put each day and all of the materials for that day in one sheet protector.
I hope this unit helps you with Guided Math by providing a whole class teach, active engagement, guided math activities and exit tickets for almost everyday- you can’t beat $1.75 per day for a complete unit!

TEKS: 4.6A, 4.5C, 4.5D, 4.8A, 4.8B, 4.8C
Problem Solving with Measurement
4.6(A) identify points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, and perpendicular and parallel lines
4.5(C) use models to determine the formulas for the perimeter of a rectangle (l+w+l+w or 2l+2w), including the special form for perimeter of a square (4s) and the area of a rectangle (l x w)
4.5(D) solve problems related to perimeter and area of rectangles where dimensions are whole numbers
4.8(A) identify relative sizes of measurement units within the customary and metric systems
4.8(B) convert measurements within the same measurement system, customary or metric, from a smaller unit into a larger unit or a larger unit into a smaller unit when given other equivalent measures represented in a table
4.8(C) solve problems that deal with measurements of length, intervals of time, liquid volumes, mass, and money using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division as appropriate
